Over this early period in my degree I began to start reading about artists that take on the role of the instigator and how they challenge the ideas of audience participation. It was also over the course of this semester that I really began my investigations into social structures and experiments arriving at my key concept of the ‘Flower-Baby’, an American home economic exercise. This being a test of parenthood where students would get in to pairs or couples and have to look after a 1kg bag of flower for a week.

My flower babies where inhuman 1kg cubes of cast plaster, that where given out and asked to be protected from the elements and accompanied with a diary for the participants to express their experience. Once the week was over, the participants would place the infants into the incubator and destroy their cubes with primitive tools in recognition that it is just a lump of plaster, and not a baby.
